Background

Born in Canada’s remote Yukon Territory, Laura spent her formative years playing in the woods, dogsledding, riding her horse, and helping with the family farm. Her unusual upbringing has shaped her path as an individual and an artist, bringing unique perspective, a deep empathy for the natural world and a concern for the environment that stems from direct dependence on its health.

Her passion for a vast array of callings has given Laura many varied experiences, from studying and working in the fashion industry, working with horses, cooking, writing, and now focusing on her work as an independent artist. They say variety is the spice of life, and her range of experience shows in her imaginative and unique use of colour, texture, and subject matter. Laura strives to bring a touch of the ethereal or fantastical, as well as earthly to each of her works, often combining crisp pen and ink with dreamy watercolour to better express juxtaposition.

After spending her early adulthood in Vancouver, Laura spent the last 5 years living and working in Montreal. Inspired by a city of artists and musicians, it was there that she finally made the move to become a career artist. She has recently returned to her home town of Dawson City, where she feels most at home in the vast, expressive scenery of her childhood. Her work reflects her wild imagination and deep connection to the earth and its natural wonders, both epic and microscopic.
